Getting started with Joomla can be really confusing. This article is about a basic Joomla setup, with a couple of extras that will really improve things. You might call it a Joomla site pack. The basic Joomla plus!

The latest version of Joomla

Sounds obvious but this is the first thing you need. Download the latest version then follow the instructions for installing it.

An editor

The standard Joomla installation comes with an editor, that's what lets you write articles and change them. It's a good editor, but there are better ones around that will allow you to do more, and do it quicker.

A sitemap generator

If you want your website to be easily indexed by Google, and who doesn't? Then a sitemap will help. It also helps people too, by providing an easy reference to all the pages on your site. Xmap is very good. It produces both a visual sitemap that people can read, and a sitemap for Google. So you get the best of both.

The Jumi Module

Jumi is a special module that lets you include executable php into your pages. For some things it's the easiest way to add specialised things into pages.

If you have a google adsense account and want to show adverts on your pages we will be adding a tutorial to show exactly how it's done. This will include screenshots that show everything you need to know.
